Kamgan’s client, one of the
world's largest specialty retailers. The client had a system
– individually distributed across their more than 1200
retail location. The system was utilized at the store level
to track inventory location and keep available inventory on
the shelves as much as possible.
The system utilized an Oracle database at each location to
keep that store’s data. The backend programs were written in
C and provided interfacing support for external system
including Sales, Distribution Center (Manifests), RF
(In-store), and other corporate national systems.
Kamgan removed the individually distributed applications
from each of the 1200-plus store locations and replaced them
with a centralized system designed and developed on a single
IBM S/390 mainframe computer located at the client’s
national headquarters. The improved centralized system
utilized a DB2 database to amass all subsidiary store
information.
The backend programs were converted from C to COBOL to
provide support for improved external interfacing with
Sales, Distribution Center (Manifests), RF (In-store), and
the client’s other corporate national systems. Websphere and
J2EE were used to develop web-based reporting designed to
provide real-time information for store managers and
employees.
